For those who know her as Shirleen Wangari know much but to many of us may be wondering where Shish the student of Tahidi High school went after clearing from the school. Well she has been busy too but now with real life, she is into poetry and never left acting and now she is organizing a poetry event aimed at promoting both actors and poets.
The event is dubbed Blackwells Poetry contest. It is a monthly competition that will take place between March 1st and June 31st. The platform for the competition will be online. Poets will have a chance to submit(post) their best pieces on the Blackwell Poetry page on Facebook between these dates i.e March 1st and June 31st.
Based on fan votes, Shirleen will get to pick out the best poems at the end of every month and award a winner on the last day of the month.
The award for best poem will be a professional photo-shoot of 10 photos themed on the poem that won that month. At the end of the entire competition, the best poem from all months will get a short poem film that follows a script based on the poem which can act as your demo reel.
This will allow the competition to also be a platform for actors to showcase their talents and market themselves in the fast growing Kenyan film industry and be mentored by one of the great actors we have around.
