A third year student at Masinde Muliro University was found dead in a rental house at Nambale shopping center in Busia County. According to neighbors, the 24-year-old who hails from Ageng’a village in Funyula Sub County was last seen on Friday evening in a jovial mood.
“I was washing utensils outside when I felt a foul smell coming from his house. We went knocking but no one opened the door forcing us to seek help from the police,” said Mary Auma, a neighbor.
Nambale police commander Moss Ndiwa said the cause of the student’s death was unclear.
“We tried to open the door but it was locked from inside forcing us to break it. We found his decomposing body lying on the mattress covered with a blanket,” he said
Mr Ndiwa said police have launched investigation to determine the cause of his death.
The body of the deceased was moved to Busia district hospital awaiting postmortem.
This is not the first time a student of Masinde Muliro University has been found dead. Last year a third year education student was found dead at his hostel in Kakamega town.
