Dear mama, it’s been a long while since I talked to you in a letter. But then mama, the things I can say in a letter are much more honest than any words from my mouth. Mama, I rarely tell you I love you. In fact if I remember well, I have never told you I love you. But let me write it down for you. I love you with all of my heart.
Mama, I have very few memories of when I was a child. I don’t remember you carrying me. But I know that you loved me. With the love only a mother can give to her child. I know you did. The love you showed me when packing a snack for me in my lunch box. That I remember. The love you showed me when you seriously whacked my bottom. That I remember. I could cry then and the next minute you saying something to make me laugh. Just so you don’t see me sad. Laughing I did, indeed.
As a matter of fact, I the only memories I have are of your strength. I only know you as strong. The times you shed tears, they were not of sadness but of strength. Tears of a resolve to go on. No matter what. Mama, I have a daughter named after you. She looks just like you. I look at her and see you. I will be bringing her to see you this holiday. You will love her. I hope she will grow up strong as you.
‘If you think I am beautiful, wait till you see my mum’ Do you remember this mama? This is a T-Shirt you gave me as a present when I was a little boy. I still got it even though it is torn. It is a constant reminder of your love. Nothing in this world makes it complete like mama’s love. That many will agree.
Guess what mama, am starting a segment in a blog that will be dedicated to all the loving moms in the world. It is entirely inspired by your love.
Mama, this is my short love letter to you.
Yours loving son.
